As a software engineer, I make an effort to stay updated on the latest news in the industry. Much of this news comes in the form of articles on blogs, which leads me to frequently “save for later.” The challenge, however, is finding the time to actually revisit and read these articles. I struggle with reading, and focusing solely on reading these articles is difficult for me. I would prefer the option to listen to the articles while I’m engaged in other activities, such as taking a walk or commuting to and from work. These moments provide opportunities for reading, but it’s neither feasible nor safe to read in these situations.

Conceptualization

This is where the idea for “Narrator” emerged. The goal is to create a platform where individuals can record themselves narrating online articles for others to consume at their convenience. This concept draws inspiration from text-to-speech systems, but with a focus on achieving a natural and comprehensible “speech.” Traditional text-to-speech often sounds robotic, lacks consistent flow, and can stumble over simple grammar. Furthermore, it does not account for the diverse speech patterns found worldwide.

Podcasts are an excellent medium for consuming information. They can be enjoyed on the go, whether you’re relaxing under the sun, lounging by the pool, engaged in physical activity, or participating in any number of other pursuits. Narrator aims to provide a “choose your own” podcast experience, allowing users to queue up (or save for later) narrations for listening
